Intro

It is TOUGH to try to assign an actual price to magic/rare/crafted items. So far, this site has offered a score and a standard deviation. But, at the end of the day, what I really want is to know its price in runes.

Auctions allow us to find out the market value the old fashioned way! Put your item up for auction, and see if any bites come in.

Auction Preparation Checklist

Make sure you've handled these before putting an item up for auction.

You must be the item's owner

If you were logged in when you entered an item then you will automatically be the item's owner. You will know you are the owner because you will be listed as the owner on the items detailed page:

If you were not logged in when you entered the item then you can claim it after logging in:

You can view all of the items you own on the "my-items" view for each type of item (Ring, Amulet, etc).

The item must have a screenshot

To add a screenshot, click 'edit' and then on the edit page:

Creating an Auction

Make sure you've gone through the auction preparation checklist above.

You can create an auction from the "my items" views:

Or you can create an auction on the details page for that item:

Minimum Price

To create an auction you have to specify a minimum asking price, and a number of days to stay open. Auctions will remain open until a high enough bid has been received.

Minimum asking price and bids are compared to each other by their pgem equivalent values.

Users can specify that they want strict rune combinations (ie: Ist + Mal, no exceptions). The site does not actually do anything to enforce this, but it does help communicate the maker's wants to prospective bidders.

The auction's maker will be sent an email when the minimum price is hit.

Once the minimum price is hit the auction's specified number of days will kick in. The auction's closing time will be set to the current time + number of days. Once that many days have elapsed the auction will automatically close and will set the highest bid as the final sale price.

Placing a Bid

You can place any bid you want on any item. A bid consists of a specific combination of runes.

Sometimes it can be worth placing a bid even if the pgem equivalent value of your bid is less than the current highest bid.

Accepting a Bid

Makers can choose to accept any bid they want, regardless of pgem equivalent value. Sometimes, a Gul might be worth slightly more than Ist + Mal, but damnit CTA isn't Amn + Ral + Gul + Ohm, now is it?

If the auction maker accepts a bid, both the maker and taker will be sent an email notifying them of the accepted bid. A chat window will be created between the two parties so they can set up a time and game.

Auction Timeouts

Auctions will remain open until the minimum price is hit. Once the minimum price is hit, the auction will remain open for the user-specified number of days.

Once that many days have elapsed the auction will automatically close and set the current highest bid as the final sale price.

Both the maker and taker will receive email notifications. A chat window will be created for them to coordinate a time and game.

Price Comparisons

We can use auction history to try to get price estimates by comparing items to items which recently successfully sold at auction.

This is just like comps in the real estate market. Instead of comparing number of bedrooms and square footage, we'll compare important mods to identify the most closely related past sales history.

I am VERY excited about the idea of having price comparison data, so I hope you all participate in plenty of auctions! :)
